The USO Wishbook

This holiday season the USO is offering the perfect shopping solution to Americans tired of spending the weeks and days leading up to Christmas, in crowded shopping malls, trying to find that perfect and sometimes expensive gift for the person who seems to have everything that often ends up as clutter: The USO Wishbook.

A first of its kind, it’s the most comprehensive alternative giving catalogue that solely supports U.S. troops and their families. With gifts to suit every budget, the USO Wishbook offers items to support deployed troops, wounded warriors and military families, priced from $15 up to $5,000 for extraordinary gifts. For $25 or less, you can purchase a care package that helps get a service member through the initial days of deployment, a kit to help a military child cope with the stresses of military life, or a calling card to keep a service member and their family connected.

A perfect gift for anyone on your list, help us lift the spirits of America’s troops and their families for the holidays!

USO, Universal Pictures’ ‘Battleship’ Team to Thank Vets, Troops on Veterans Day

On this Veterans Day, the USO and Universal Pictures encourage everyone to visit our Facebook page to share their stories of friends and family members who serve or have served in defense of our country and of democracy around the world. This partnership between the USO and Universal Pictures also focuses on the studio’s upcoming movie release of “Battleship,” slated for release next summer.

Described as “an epic action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force” by Universal Pictures, “Battleship” stars Taylor Kitsch (NBC’s “Friday Night Lights”), supermodel Brooklyn Decker, Alexander Skarsgard (HBO’s “True Blood”), recording artist superstar Rihanna and acting great Liam Neeson.

In the featurette below, go behind the scenes with film director Peter Berg (“Friday Night Lights,” “The Kingdom,” “Hancock”) as he shows how the production has incorporated active duty and retired military members into the movie and what they bring to the feature. (Look closely and you might be able to catch glimpses of some of the film’s stars, as well.)

Say Cheese! Order a Papa John’s Pizza to Raise Money for Troops

Papa John’s and the USO are teaming up to raise funds to support our troops and their families with a promotion that’s as easy as pie … pizza pie.

Papa John’s has pledged to donate $1 to the USO for every purchase of the USO Meal Deal — two large, one-topping pizzas for $20 — today through Nov. 20. And on Veterans Day, Papa John’s supports America’s troops and their families with an “11-11-11″ Special: Papa John’s will donate $1 to the USO for every online order from 11 a.m. EST-11 p.m. PST. Quite a way to celebrate our nation’s current and retired armed forces.

Check out the commercial to get fired up for a piping hot pizza that will warm the hearts of troops and their families while warming your belly. Place an order now. – Christian Pelusi, USO

Miles In Support of All Who Serve

In honor of all those who serve, from now until Veterans Day, 11/11/11, American Airlines’ AAdvantage members will be rewarded 15 miles instead of 10 for each dollar donated through American’s Miles In Support of All Who Serve campaign! The minimum $25 donation supports USO programs and services to support the morale, welfare, social and entertainment needs of troops and their families, like free phone cards, care packages, and more!

7-Eleven and USO Team Up to Send a Touch of Home Overseas

Most troops would agree that one of the most difficult adjustments of being overseas is missing the warmth of home, family, and friends. Care packages can bring a touch of comfort to remind the troops that the citizens they serve are thinking of them. The USO has been delivering care packages to troops through the program, Operation USO Care Package for many years and this November, participating 7-Eleven stores nationwide will launch Operation Thank You to help the USO send care packages overseas by giving guests the opportunity to purchase donation cards to aid in this effort.

7-Eleven’s Operation Thank You will honor the service of active, veteran and retired members of the military and their immediate families by offering a free small Slurpee drink from 11AM to 7PM on 11/11/11. In addition, 7-Eleven’s fleet of Slurpee Trucks will be visiting 11 military bases across the country to bring the frosty beverage directly to those stationed around the United States.

$1 Million in Ten Days Campaign

The lone USO center at Bagram Airfield sees more than 20,000 visits every month. In order to keep providing a place of refuge and relaxation for all our troops stationed in Afghanistan, we need to expand. That’s why the USO is opening a new 8,500 square foot center that will more than double our size. If we can raise $1 million in the next ten days, we’ll have the resources needed to complete urgent “support our troops” tasks including opening the USO’s new center in East Bagram, Afghanistan and continuing to provide a touch of home to all of our troops.

Why the Veterans Day deadline? Because, there’s no better way to honor the service of our veterans than by helping our active duty troops currently serving on the front lines today! We’re very excited to be launching this critical 10-day mission. Help us get it off to a strong start by sending a donation of $5 or more right now!
