When people look back over the life of Elizabeth Taylor, images of Cleopatra and Hollywood glamour come to mind first. Of course many people know she was also a great humanitarian – one of the first celebrities to really put a voice to the causes she believed in! But you may not be aware that she was deeply passionate about supporting our troops, going on hospital visits and entertaining the soldiers with the USO. In fact, she was a recipient of the USO Merit Award for all of her amazing volunteer efforts.
Here are some great memories the USO has of Elizabeth Taylor that we wanted to share with all of you. Liz, we salute you!

I don’t think a lot of people realize just how much she really did, and I give her credit for being the great person she was. R.I.P. to a great STAR!
She was a very compassionate humanitarian. I’m sure those that she touched will never forget her.
Best Wishes Ms. Taylor – I enjoyed your movies growing up and although you had tough times healthwise these past few years, you always had a good heart and thought of others. Heaven is a better place now that you are there.

Elizabeth Taylor was an icon who can never be replaced, She was a giving person, on stage, in life, and always fighting for a cause. Through all her illnesses, she still gave her heart. May God open His Golden Doors, and welcome her, for she will be missed by one and all.
It is a shame that while she was here, so much focus was on her weight, and relationships. That said, she did a lot of kind things, and I will remember her as a humanitarian, and appreciate her for caring for other human beings.
Great thkninig! That really breaks the mold!
When I was a little girl I remember seeing Elizabeth for the very first time on the Ed Sullivan show. My Mother remarked on her and told me about her moving here permanently from England. From that moment on Elizabeth Taylor was my favorite in the beauty department. She was what we referred to as ‘A Star.’ Well, I’m sure her star shines brightly in heaven for all the good she has done here on earth. Keep in mind, even God doesn’t judge us until we die………….so we shouldn’t either. I, for one, will continue to see that gorgeous face with that humanitarian heart.
Wow! Great tinkhing! JK
