WHY: Platinum hard rock musicians Shaun Morgan, Dale Stewart, Troy McLawhorn and John Humphrey of Seether are gearing up for their second USO/Armed Forces Entertainment tour. The quartet will take their high-energy antics on the road to perform for troops and their families serving overseas, pose for photos and participate in meet and greets.
Formed in 1999, the South African rock band released its first U.S. album “Disclaimer” in 2002. Having become one of the core artists on rock radio, Seether has sold more than 5 million records worldwide with each release producing multiple Top 10 hits. Their chart-topping success includes number one singles “Remedy,” “Fake It,” “Rise Above This,” as well as the gold certified hit “Broken” and “Careless Whisper.”
In 2009, the group participated in their first USO tour visiting more than 5,000 troops and their families stationed in Japan. Their newest album “Holding on to Strings Better Left to Fray” will be released in 2011.

WHY: What happens when you take three of today’s funniest performers, add in two country music legends and round out the mix with one of the most inspirational athletes of our times? Troops overseas are about to find out as the USO once again teams up with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen for the annual USO holiday tour featuring Lance Armstrong, Lewis Black, Kix Brooks, Bob DiPiero, Kathleen Madigan and Robin Williams.
Partnering with the USO since 2000, the Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has deployed more than 11 entertainment tours and lifted the spirits of more than 150,000 service men and women. Delivering a much-needed break to troops overseas, the seven-day tour will deliver laughs and goodness to our men and women in uniform during a time of year that matters most, the holidays.
This trip will mark the sixth USO tour for Williams, the third for Black and the second for Armstrong, Brooks, DiPiero and Madigan.
No strangers to drawing huge crowds, rockers M. Shadows, Synyster Gates, Zacky Vengeance and Johnny Christ of Avenged Sevenfold performed for troops currently serving on the front lines in the Middle East. This was the first USO/Armed Forces Entertainment tour for the group. The eight-day tour gave service men and women something to stomp their feet about this holiday season and included crowd-pleasing performances, autograph signings and an opportunity for troops to meet the band face-to-face.
The band released their fifth studio album “Nightmare” on July 27, 2010, which debuted in the top spot on the Billboard Top 200, and will break away from their current UK tour to make the long-distance journey to support troops.
The singing group Voice Avenue, who are finalist on the NBC show “Sing-Off” and who are supporting the USO’s mission with proceeds from their song “Wishing on a Chrismas Star” performed to a capacity crowd of more than 3,000 at Starthmore Concert Hall in Bethesda, MD last night along with Michael W. Smith.
The group told the audience about their love for our troops and encoured evenryone to support the USO.
Yesterday they were moved at witnessing the changing of the guard and wreath laying at Arlington National Cenmetary yesterday. Afterwards they spent time thanking the Soldiers who guard the Tomb and who oversee the burial of our honored heroes.
Last week following their concert in Dallas they visited the USO at DFW and performed for troops and thanked them for their service.
Later this week Voice Avenue will be in Cincinnati, St Louis and Hosuton where local NBC affilaites will have them on to promote the USO and where they will visit USO Centers.

Another episode of the USO’s Operation Family Connect: Road to Reunion is available for people to watch! Road to Reunion is a series of six web videos that chronicle three military families as they anticipate the return of their family members from Iraq. People can also follow each family’s compelling story and share in their exciting moments through home videos and personalized blogs. For those who want to help connect deployed soldiers with their family members during the holiday season, there is also an opportunity to donate to Operation Family Connect.
