Photo of the Day: Calling All USO Sleuths!

Thanks to all of you who helped us identify the people and places in our previous photo posts. We have another one for all of you mystery buffs:

What can you tell us about this photo?

The only information we have about this picture is the handwritten “4/70/2” on the back. Is this date accurate? Who is playing on the stage?  Where exactly was this photo taken?

Please leave a comment with any information about the location, performers, crowd, photographer… anything that might give us a clue about this rockin’ concert.

  1. This is a great pic ! Hope someone can identify it !

  2. The building in the back is Pharmacie du Theatre, def French. A quick Google search turned up a pharmacy in France with the same name (I have know idea how many there are though, could be a chain.) http://www.pharmaciedutheatre.fr/
From the looks of some of the beginnings of sideburns on some of the men, I’d say 1970 could be an accurate date as well.

  3. The sign in the background “Le Livre de Pouche” is a type of paperback from the started in the 50′s in France. Here is a website for a business of the same name. Unfortunately my French isn’t good enough to wade through it’s history information http://www.livredepoche.com/a-propos/historique.html

  4. This may be in front of the Theatre de Poche in Brussels. Not sure of the date, but maybe April 2, 1970

I think you’re right on the money…Brussels, April 2, 1970 (it was my guess due to store signs and the way dates are written in Europe). Visited Brussels several times while living in Landstuhl, Germany–1988-1991.

  5. Looks like France, maybe Paris, possibly 1947, February,USO?
