Throughout the year, the USO is participating in Disney’s “Give A Day. Get A Disney Day.” promotion through the HandsOn Network. To engage volunteers from via virtual volunteerism, we’ve developed “Story Time from the Front Lines, ” an opportunity specifically for individuals living in remote areas of the United States. It is sponsored by the United Through Reading® Military Program and hosted by the USO.
It’s simple: volunteers collect children’s books to send to service members stationed in Southwest Asia. Service members read these books to their children while being recorded to a DVD. Both the book and the DVD are then sent back home, creating a stronger bond between the deployed adult and the special child or children in their lives. In return for their service, volunteers receive a one-day pass to a Disney park of their choice!
The program kicked-off on January 1, 2010 and will run throughout the year, or until Disney gives away one million park passes. The USO looks forward to this amazing venture and to giving people the opportunity to share in the profound impact it has on our men and women in uniform along with their families.
